Welcome Session

The workshop chair opens the workshop, welcomes speakers and the audience, provides some information on the workshop, and pitches the posters to be presented in the poster session.

Hi! Come in! Take a seat! We haven't started yet, but we are close to start.

Hi! Yeah, welcome everybody to the third edition of the Workshop on Open-Source Automation. So I'm very happy to see you here. We have a very interesting program today, although it's very dense, so..., but you know in short things... are very spicy [trying to directly translate the German version of "Brevity is the soul of wit."]. Okay... so... sorry. My name is Christian Krieg. I'm with TU Wien and I'm the chair organizer of this workshop. So if you have any questions, just approach me in the coffee break or later in the conference and let me know what you are thinking.

Okay, so this is the introductory session, the welcome session of this workshop and of course I have to say something about the workshop itself, some meta-information on OSDA. So, first of all, let me say "Thank You" a few times. So, first of all, "Thank You" to all these people who made OSDA happening, who made it possible. Thanks to my technical program committee who gave very precious suggestions on who to invite, who carefully checked and reviewed papers, who were always here for me when I had questions. So... Thank you very much!

Also, I want to thank my speakers, our speakers, our presenters who prepared the presentation, flew all the way here, accept having jet lag. Yes, and, participate here to update everyone on the new, on the current state of the art in open-source design automation. Sorry. Okay, so... Thank you very much!

Also, I would like to thank YOU. So actually, I frequently asked for the numbers of "registrations", if you can call it like that, because technically you just expressed interest in the workshop; but constantly this workshop was the workshop with the most "registrations". And on Friday, the numbers were as follows. So our workshop had 213 registrations, followed by other workshops, which you can see below. So... Thank you for your interest in this workshop, or, more generally, in open-source design automation. So, this number shows that interest is here, it's present, and it's pressing. So yeah, it's nice to see how this field is evolving.

Of course, there are always cost associated to such events like this. So I want to thank our sponsors who provided resources for making OSDA possible.

And last but not least, I also want to thank the DATE conference organization for doing such a great job in organizing such a nice event like DATE conference. I'm very happy that it again takes place in person. And whenever I had a question regarding the workshop organization, I was always been cared about, very responsive. And yeah, so I had very great support for every question I had during the planning of the workshop. So... Thank you also to DATE organization.

So what's ahead of us? Probably you noticed already the QR code on the top right. So you will see a bigger version of it right now; if you can scan it? So I would like to invite you to see at this website, it shows our program, where you can follow who is the current speaker, what's the next speaker, and find additional information on the talks presented, links, and material. And we will update the website also in the future with material. So please sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media. You won't regret it. And we have a channel to address you. Because we don't have any idea who registered for this workshop because of the GDPR and similar regulations. We don't have any data about you. So if you want to get informed from us, please sign up. And, yeah, don't miss any information on future events like this. So today we have 12 invited speakers. So... Thank you very much for coming here! Most of them coming from the US, having lots of travel and suffering from jet lag. So I really, really appreciate it. Also the costs that are associated with the traveling. And I'm also happy that one paper submission qualified for oral presentation today. So I'm very happy and curious about what Frans will present us later. In the back, you will see four posters which are ready for discussion. So please discuss with the poster authors and give them feedback. So you are the ones that could provide the best feedback, because you are the experts. So, thank you very much in advance! Unfortunately, two invited speakers were not able to come. So we thought about having some remote presentation, but then we decided not to do it because our time here is very, very limited. So we thought it's better to not use it for remote presentations, but rather use it for discussion afterwards. So, I would suggest that we still try to maintain the schedule. And if we have time left at the end to have a free discussion where all speakers are still here and where we can all discuss freely. So, we need a lot of discipline. So, every talk lasts about 10 minutes and we have five minutes of Q&A. So, I'm very optimistic that we'll make it...

Okay, so I also have to maintain my timing! So, let me just briefly pitch the posters which are attached in the back. So, the first one will be presented by Francesco Gonnella, which is with the University of Birmingham. And he will present a git-based HDL repository. He will tell you more about it. The second poster... So yeah, this is Francesco! The second poster is presented by Lucas Klemmer with Johannes Kepler University, Linz. And he will present a waveform analysis tool. The third poster is presented by Stefan Riesenberger. He is working on characterizing FPGA architectures for estimating power on FPGA architectures. And Vamsi Vytla will present his slide set instead of a poster. And he will present a register map automation tool for Verilog.

So I guess I blocked enough time for this workshop. So, without further ado...
